Off-Ice Lutz Jump- How to Maintain the Outside Edge
The lutz jump is a complicated jump to complete on the floor.
When performing the lutz on the floor, it is important to maintain weight pressing into the gliding foot until the transfer to the picking foot for as long as possible. If pressure is released, the jump can easily turn into a flip.
Another key thing to watch for is that the inside of the gliding foot at the point of release is slightly lifting. This will clearly indicate that the take off is off an outside edge on the floor.
Make sure the picking foot picks close to the gliding foot on the release. If the foot picks away from the gliding foot, it can also cause a potential edge change, due to the release of the pressure too soon.
