Base exercise: Salchow entry to take-off walkthrough
Variation: Against the boards
Purpose: This exercise uses boards to help feel the alignment of the body over the skating side on the salchow take-off. The skater needs to press their take-off side against the boards, and lift their free leg hip up so the heel starts pressing towards the boards. This helps the skater not drop the free side hip, and pressing against the boards helps the skater feel the rotation against the circle with their arms. The skater also needs to keep the free leg narrow on the take-off to remain close to the boards.
Focus: Alignment over take-off side, narrow take-off, free side stacking, internal rotation of free foot
Helps fix: Jump pathway, alignment on skating side, free side control, free foot pathway
Rotational direction demonstrated: Counterclockwise
