Base exercise: Axel take-off skip
Variation: On a straight line, continuous
Purpose: This drill helps skaters learn how to fully use their skating side for vertical height by pressing up to their toepick. Doing this on a straight line helps the skater practice control of the free side as the skating side rises up to the toe-pick, as it it easier to control the free side and not allow it to swing when doing this exercise on a straight line rather than a curve.
Focus: Take-off, skating side, pathway of free leg, vertical height, control of free side
Helps fix: Rotating before vertical height, lack of control on free side, center of gravity, alignment on skating side, free leg swingy
