Base exercise: Axel entry to lockdown walkthrough
Variation: Axel entry into lockdown while in a forward upright spin
Purpose: This drill really focuses on helping skaters feel and improve their outside edge take-off of an axel. The skater needs to be able to push into a strong outside edge to initiate the spin, and maintain the pressure on their skating leg outside edge while their free side follows through from take-off into follow through.
Helps with these common mistakes: Change of edge or weak outside edge on axel take off, not maintaining pressure or center of gravity over the skating side
Associated skating element: Axel, double axel
Rotational direction demonstrated: Counterclockwise
Equipment: No equipment
