In this video, Signe breaks down the basic concepts for the toe loop into eight steps.
Pre-requisite: Inside three turn on the circle with the free leg extended on entrance and exit.
Signe explains that she recommends learning a toe loop with the same technique that will be used in a double toe loop. This may be a bit harder in the beginning, but it will make it easier to learn the double or to improve the quality of the single toe loop jump.
Here are the steps that Signe uses for the toe loop.
1) With the arms counterchecked, push into the forward inside three turn.
2) Turn to backwards with the free foot extended behind.
3) Pick with the foot directly behind the skating foot.
4) Begin to pivot the skating foot on the outside edge towards the picked foot.
5) The heel of the skating foot is in line toe of the picked foot, with knees rotated outward.
6) Push off the picking toe to extend the front foot into the air.
7) 1/2 turn over to the landing leg
8) Extend into a landing position.
These steps help prevent skaters from doing a toe waltz/toe axel where there is no proper pivot and pass through phase.
